Is that the gearbox built by Tremec?

The corvette used a 4 speed auto up until 2006 (I think) maybe that's it.

The 700r4 turbo hydramatic. It was used from the last year C3 all the way up to the first year C6!

For added effect...

The Turbo-Hydramatic had the most ridiculous name of any transmission ever.

And I dare anyone to defy me.

Wouldn't the C5 and C6 and be a 4L60E?

I wonder how many generations my 6 speed Manuél in the 997 lasted

He definitely died in the 991

But the 996 (and maybe 993) could have had him

They changed the designation a few times. Started as a 700R4, then 4L60, then 4L60E. Same 4 speed automatic. Evensaw duties in pickups until 2010, and they still sell it as a crate trans.

That would be awesome. YOU WANT A TRANSMISSION?! 4 SPEED MANUAL OR 2 SPEED POWERGLIDE.

Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and several more that I cant remember right now used the 4l80E.

My understanding is just that the 4L60E is an electronically controlled 700R4. I guess I would say essentially the same instead of exactly, but that's just splitting hairs.

R.I.P Manuel VI.

I think Porsche basically used the same 6 speeds in the 911s, not totally sure though.

700r4 are close but I think they are different from 4l60 and the 4l60e is electronic so I can sorta understand OP claim but I would argue the 4L60E is different enough with all its electronic control bits to be different.

Not completely the same trans. At the very least the pump and valve body are different. 1998+ 4L60-Es have removable bellhousings.

It's 4:1 manual:automatic. It's okay, though. We have all the 911s we need! 993 and older cars are getting ridiculously expensive, though. Thanks, 3.2 Carrera, but you should not be as expensive as contemporary ferraris that were actually easy to maintain and make clinky noises when you shift gear.

Here's my idea. Ultra light current gen Camaro platform, stripped out interior, 5.3 Ecotec truck motor, $18,000, P/G or M22 are the only transmissions available. Solid axle out back, with rear seats available as an option. Edit: set to debut after 6th gen Camaro, call it a Monza.

Yeah, it's just interesting because at first it was so new, and by 2005 people thought it was really outdated. Manual transmissions range all the way from 3 speed manuals in '68 (a pretty bad year quality-wise) along with four speeds until '81. '82 was slushbox only. '84 introduced the Doug Nash 4+3 which I like best (no bias), '89 introduced the ZF 6 speed, and '97 saw the T56 come into use which would remain the Corvette's manual trans through the C6.

The thing about the 400 is that its design shows so much restrain and originality. Meanwhile, they go nuts over the FF which probably will be looked at less-than-fondly 10 years from now.

Remember reading about those 70s and 80s limited production luxury cars (maybe the Bitter, and similar) that used 3-speed Chrysler autoboxes. Maybe GM thought that if you were disinterested enough to buy a Corvette automatic that you didn't deserve better. That sounds like the old GM. Looks like the C7 has a Tremec manual, which sounds like 1 or 2 gears to many to me, but I haven't driven it ....

The 612 shows the same restraint, and is awesome for that reason. The 360 may be far from pretty, but I'm afraid we only have "look at me" Ferraris to look forward to...

A gated 612 would be... Just... I can't use words to describe it. Still must be unbelievably cool to be able to drive any kind of Ferrari let alone a 612! I mean, I'd drive a Hyundai pony every workday to be able to drive/look at/touch a 612 every Saturday!

That's 1982-2005, or 23 years, correct? Not bad, but Subaru still has it beat. The 4EAT was used from 1988-2013, or 25 years.
